Pax will be the mascot of WC 2023

Pax is the name that fans chose online for the mascot of the World Championship 2023.

Russia’s aggression against Ukraine has shown us how uncertain the value of peace today is. The name for the squirrel was created by reality. Pax, meaning “peace” in Latin, is also proof of the awareness and sensitivity of the fans who took part in the survey.

The fans met the mascot for the first time during the Poland-Sweden matches in Płock. We collected name suggestions on social media. The three most attractive ones were chosen by the representatives of the Polish and Swedish federation.

Later, the vote was back in the hands of handball fans who could take part in a poll on the tournament’s official website. The name “Pax” got more votes than “Sticky” and “Sweski”.
